Pocahontas Coal Poster with steamship Teutonic

Advertisement poster for Pocahontas Semi-Bituminous Coal, featuring an illustration of the White Star Line steamship Teutonic, as well as a small calendar. Pocahontas coal refers to a coal seam along the border of Virginia and West Virginia, that was first mined in 1883. The steamship Teutonic was built in 1889 with the purpose of competing for the Blue Riband, an award for the fastest Atlantic crossing. She successfully won the award in 1891. This poster boasts of her crossing the ocean in 5 days, 21 hours and 3 minutes; however, her record-breaking run was 5 days, 19 hours, 5 minutes.
