Steamship Alaska, Guion Line
Print portraying the steamship Alaska of the Guion Line. The Guion Line’s official name was the Liverpool & Great Western Steamship Company Limited, founded in 1866 and serving routes between Liverpool, Queenstown and New York. Guion vessels were quite fast for their time: the Alaska, built in 1881, won the Blue Riband with an Atlantic crossing of 7 days, 6 hours, 43 minutes. Later crossings were faster at around 6 days. This ship would make the last sailing for the company before it folded in 1894.
