Steamship Oceanic, White Star Line
Lithograph print of a painting signed by C. M. Proday, depicting the steamship Oceanic of the White Star Line. This advertisement for the line and this vessel shows her at sea with imposing lines and tall funnels, illustrating speed and power in contrast to the sailing vessel in the background, left in her metaphorical dust. The Oceanic was built in 1899, and her design and power was in stark contrast to an earlier White Star ship of the same name built in 1870, which had four sail rigged masts and one funnel.
