Steamship Royal Edward, Royal Line
The Royal Edward was originally built in 1908 as the Cairo for the Egyptian Mail Steamship Company, but that line was unsuccessful, so the ship was transferred to the Royal Line, a new subsidiary of the Canadian Northern Railway. Together with her sister ship Royal George, she ran routes from Avonmouth to Quebec and Montreal. The company was short-lived however: both vessels became troopships in WWI, and the company was later taken over by Cunard in 1916.
